SKATEISTAN is a non-profit skateboard school teaching the youth of Kabul, Afghanistan how to skate and more... The school engages growing numbers of urban and internally-displaced youth in Afghanistan through skateboarding, and provides them with new opportunities in cross-cultural interaction, education, and personal empowerment programs. Since Skateistan has been active in Kabul, we’ve seen that Afghan youth of all ethnicities, genders, and socioeconomic backgrounds love to skateboard. Skateistan brings them together, equipping young men and women to lead their communities toward social change and development. www.SKATEISTAN.org

woodward

went to woodward to see buzzy, lindsay, and tim and all i got was this giant chip!
ok, not true. i got a great time and saw a whole bunch of people. woodward built a new plaza type thing and really that is all i skated. plus they have been playing daily games of skate so i got roped into more games last week than i had ever played before. i lost them all, but landed tricks i hadn't done in years, if ever.
preston made it all the way to the finals but lost. to his credit i bet preston had more fun losing than the kid had winning.

good on ya: Ari, Ted, Bucky, Preston, Jeff, Brian, Tim, Lindsay, Ben, and Buzzy.

all in all a great time.

minute number 2

ah the open road

some friends and i high tailed it to PDX for a great weekend of skating, sun, swimming and some beers too.
josh along with parker and andreas got some much needed sleep on the ride up.

doug, eric, and i on the other hand took in the scenery and listened to bootleg homer all the way up.
once in portland george and derrick were nice enough to get us to all the hotspots. whether it be skating, beering, or swimming they knew where to go and how to get there. (note how much fuller the van is)

i've never really been one to stop and take pictures at parks. i usually just skate and forget to document anything. the good news this trip is that i got some of eric's boardslides, andreas' tailslide, the bad news is i deleted parker's noseblunts. just one more reason to go back, i think.
after suffering the heat for a little too long josh crashed out with diesel in george's back yard. oddly enough right next door to buzzy's first place in PDX.

saturday had more heat and more skating. but more importantly we hit up this river and cooled down the best way possible. jumping in a river. it was a little local yocal but who cares this place was great.

thanks george for showing us around
and derrick for the assist on getting us around and letting us crash at his place.
well now that i have left out too many details and hilarity i will end with my traditional trunk (back of van) pic.

one more case of good times gone good.

finally

rode down to the wharf and bought the 3 best movies you can get. i'm not some crazy star wars freak, i just know what a good trilogy looks like. the best part was using gift certificates from kids so i didn't have to pay for it. kind of nice since my first trilogy was stolen from my old apt.

which is better

i don't know what i like better: the dog that is probably really well trained and super loyal or the demon who simply steals the show...

rulers of the pet world

yeah i've been blowing it on updating and all that stuff but...

okay no buts just blowing it. my friends have some amazing pets.

Pico (owned by Suhail)
this pic makes him look crazy. he just has an amazing over bite and is a sweet heart
better pic here: cute right?
next Jeff and Danielle's Poopy (cause he always looks it)
seriously i hate cats and this guy and his brother make me so happy. they are crazy looking and have health problems, but come on this cat looks like a star wars creature. i'd welcome him into my house for that reason alone.

wrapping up: i present Choke (Nate's boston terrorizer)

here he is looking just a little french.

i like Choke too much to leave him on the french tip so here he is looking tired and skate piratey. one of the best dogs ever.

ok this place is potbellies, or potbellies is this place either way look at my lunch

just look at my lunch, now up until now it may have seemed like this bummed me out but it was the total opposite. lunch was good, i'll go back, and since the wife likes potbellies i'll bring her.

the bet

the wife and i made a bet that i won't eat any candy till 8/ 20. i went to chicago to see my family and friends and discovered that the airport really only has candy to eat. ignore the gum, check those bottom to shelves and that is my usual. so hard not to eat any but i managed and the bet goes on...

SUMMER!!!

so why a beer so early?  why the douchebag photo of beer?  cause it is a weird tradition i have gotten into when i have my last day of work for the year:

drive home, shower, have a beer.

i wanted to take a better picture of the kids working hard or me grading but i didn't so the stupid beer photo is all you get.

my summer vacation has begun. i don't know what percentage of the working world is teachers but around this time we are all a whole a lot happier.

i want to try and do just little more this summer than usual...

skate (always do)
read (never enough)
ride my bike (last year it got stolen 2 weeks into the summer)
yoga (never gone, need to go, this body ain't holdin up like it used to)
update this thing (daily? probably not...)
travel (usually do, we'll see what happens)

In the begining...

so the picture above and above above: todd and i went on a nice little trip around the midwest, actually we've been on several, and something i like is a packed car, a good friend(s) and skateboarding. we skated, laughed, sweated, camped, drove, bathed in bathrooms, went to a waterpark instead of a skatepark and loved it all. "good times gone good"
